Paul Arpin is a family-owned business.

For nearly 100 years - through four generations - we’ve been carefully building a family of customers: respecting their needs, protecting their belongings, making sure that our employees, van operators, and agents also think of themselves as a part of our family.

It’s not easy to maintain the level of personal attention our customers expect, but we know that’s how you create customers for life.

1900		Company established as Paul Arpin & Sons by current chairman’s grandfather. Firm hauls coal, wood, ice, and household goods.

1941		Upon the sudden death of his father, Paul Arpin, the current chairman takes over the reins of the company.

1978		Paul’s son David joins the company, working as a long-distance driver. He later joins the sales staff.

1982		The rapidly-expanding company builds new corporate headquarters in southern Rhode Island. Four years later, continued growth necessitates an addition to the building.

1989		Arpin international Group is formed to handle our clients’ international transportation needs.

1991		Paul Arpin becomes chairman and David Arpin becomes president of Paul Arpin Van Lines.

1994		Arpin Logistic Systems established to provide time-sensitive transportation of third proviso shipments.

About a hundred years ago, Paul Arpin - grandfather of our current chairman and CEO - established a small transportation company in Providence, Rhode Island. A self-starter, he knew that success in business depended on giving customers what they wanted. So, he hauled coal in the winter, ice in the summer, and personal belongings when the opportunity arose.

Over the years, as the automobile made transportation faster, and better roads made it more comfortable, society became more mobile. So, little by little, moving household goods became the focus of the business. It wasn't long before Paul Arpin & Sons - the original name of our company - became well-known throughout the East Coast for exceptional customer service.

The company's success attracted the attention of national household goods carriers, and Arpin was an agent for several of them at one time or another. However, by patiently obtaining interstate authority virtually one state at a time, the company - now called Paul Arpin Van Lines - became a national van line by the mid-1950s.

The last several decades have seen a great deal of upheaval in the moving industry - deregulation, mergers, and the advent of foreign ownership, for examples. But throughout the period we’ve enjoyed financial and administrative stability and double-digit growth, resulting in our current position as one of the nation's leading household goods carriers.

During the last few years, diversification has contributed to the solidity of Paul Arpin Van Lines and its affiliated companies. Today, the Arpin Group offers a full range of specialized relocation services to a wide range of corporate clients.
